Lyudmila Baronina’s style is inherited from book illustrations. The title of her work refers to the poem that could have plotted the image. However, it is important to note that Baronina’s drawings do not aim at illustrating what is written. One might even say that the image itself is empowered to rewrite and re-construct the text. The heroes of the poem merge into one character, becoming reflections of each other. The left leg of the reflection is a promise of the upcoming reunion of the couple in love: it is about to step out of the mirror. With an elegant joke, the artist depicts the warrior hero attributes as sports equipment. The bending tree resembles the mighty human body: the boundaries disappear not only between the characters, but also between all the objects around that begin to take each other’s shapes and express the inner connection. The concept of the border loses its meaning, and that is why it is so easy to get out of the mirror.
