In a series of works made on foil created in collaboration with photographer Ivan Lebedev, the authors reproduce images from Soviet postcards, photographs and sculptural art. The figure of the discus thrower is suspended in the empty space — out of time and context. It is typical for Magaril to search for new perception of Soviet aesthetics: he treats his images with care, trying to discover something deeper than belonging to a certain ideology. Placed in “weightlessness”, the monumental thrower opens up for the viewer revealing a new depth of the image.
