In his miniature ceramic sculptures, Ivan Seryi often reproduces images from the mass market and popular culture. “Since childhood I love to catch up with horror”, the artist admits. Hand-made ceramics create tactile objects, close to the body. The monster’s head seems to emerge from the wall. So it is easy to imagine that this creature is capable of passing through the solid matter. On the other hand, the method of fixing the sculpture resembles a trophy hanging. The author seems to offer a training of coping with nightmares: the threat of the pervasiveness of the monster helps to stay focused; its hanging on the wall tames it by fitting into the space. How easy is it to get used to being horrified? How long can you balance on the border of two realities until you dive into one of them completely?
