Kolesnikov frequently uses direct references to the artworks of old masters, fusing them with recognizable images of modern mass culture. A hand entwined by snakes is rather an abstract image, born out of the consciousness influenced by the Renaissance symbolism. Stuck in a tight twisted knot, a limb is depicted on canvas separately from the human body. This is a fragmental and at the same time integral image of the bodies and control being merged: the hand grasps the heads of the snakes, however is entwined by their bodies with no hope to free itself.
