The creative duo of Valery and Natalia Cherkashin, significant artists of contemporary Russian art. Since 1983, they have been engaging in performative practices, photography, painting, drawing, work with objects. Their works are in the collections of the major museums of the USA; in Russia, they are presented in the collections of the Russian Museum, Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts, Russian Culture Fund. Their works usually exhibit semantic and plastic ambiguity achieved through the use of digital photographic materials and mixed media. This horizontal sketch is made using the multilayer photopainting collage technique. It is closely related to the color and post-cubist abstractions of the first half of the century with which Valery actively experimented back in the 1980s. This work exhibits dynamic diagonal composition implemented thanks to a large figure of a soccer player suspended in flight that is the main focus of the work. In conjunction with the modernistic segregation of forms and colors, these elements fill the work with incredible energy and intensity.
