Born in 1985, Mainina studied at the V.I. Surikov Moscow State Academic Art Institute. The main theme of her work is fantasy within industrial landscapes, painting in a hyper-realistic manner with markedly deliberate, unrealistic bright colors. “Red House. My Little Paradise”, from the Industrial series (2017), reflects an overall stylistic choice of Malinina. While the landscape is completely devoid of people, it is composed of how and where people live. Malinina chooses markedly catchy, bright colors not to convey the joy of life, but the anxiety and feeling of something sinister — perhaps industry itself.
