Born in 1989 in Serov, a town in the Sverdlovsk region, Nasybullova studied at the department of monumental and decorative sculpture of the Novosibirsk State Academy of Architecture and Arts. After graduation, she lived and worked in Novosibirsk, transforming her academic knowledge into a more modern take with plaster, ceramics and jewelry. In 2017, she took part in the First Triennial of Contemporary Russian Art at the Garage Museum (Moscow). The works from the “Lenin for one’s pleasure” project are the most striking example of combining academic knowledge and its conceptual revision. Based on Lenin’s classic plaster bust, Maiana combines it with other iconic characters of the past and present — Buddha, Cheburashka, Virgin Mary, Ronald McDonald, Pennywise. In Lenin-mushroom, we see the embodied mystification of Sergei Kurekhin.
