The artist works with the motifs of the carpet serving as a screen, which highlights the nonobvious refractions of reality. At the same time, using a wide range of compositional and figurative techniques, he confronts various images of modernity that clash with the help of the carpet-portal. A shark appears from the ornamental plane sharply pushing the pictorial surface into the additional dimension. The tradition of filling the carpet patterns with deep symbolic content is known from the history of arts and crafts. In Shamov’s work this content takes shape revealing the inner side of the patterns.
