Masha Bogoraz was born in Rostov-on-Don and studied at the Grekov Rostov Art School. Bogoraz works with performance and sculpture using papier-mâché techniques, fabrics and other materials. She has participated in both the VIENNAFAIR and Art Paris international fairs. The sculpture “Boar” of the “Survival Conditions” series is made from papier-mâché, emphasizing the sensual duality of Masha’s sculptures. The cold metal frame is covered with the soft, flexible, papier-mâché — expressing, on one hand, the beginning of technogenic times and the machine, and on the other, the animal, irrational and chaotic. Reminiscent of cyborgs, biomechanical creatures that emerged from cyber-punk work, these sculptures are both tactile, emotional and disturbing — as if Giger’s heroes are suddenly endowed with intimacy and ultimate embodiment of the works of Louise Bourgeois.
